The highly-anticipated "The Flash" movie is finally hitting theaters, and fans are eager to see what it has in store. Directed by Andy Muschietti, the movie stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, a.k.a. The Flash. The film is based on the Flashpoint comic book event from 2011, which sees Barry's time-altering powers create an alternate reality.
One of the biggest highlights of the trailer was the return of Michael Keaton as Batman, as well as Ben Affleck's reprisal of the Caped Crusader. These two iconic actors are set to bring some multiverse mayhem to the movie, as they team up with The Flash to save the timeline. Sasha Calle also joins the cast as Supergirl, who makes her debut in her iconic costume.
The trailer features footage from 2013's "Man of Steel", with Barry lamenting the loss of the meta-humans who would have protected them from General Zod's forces. But, all is not lost, as Keaton's Bruce Wayne offers to help, bringing back his famous catchphrase, "I'm Batman!"
According to the film's official plot description, "The Flash" will reset the entire DC universe. Barry's attempt to change the past and save his family leads to a reality in which General Zod has returned and threatened destruction. The only hope to save the world is to convince a different Batman out of retirement and save a captive Kryptonian. The film will be a race for life, with Barry ultimately sacrificing himself to reset the universe.
James Gunn, who heads DC Studios, has described "The Flash" as a fantastic movie and a promising start to the new era of DC movies, which will begin with "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" on March 17.
Ezra Miller, who uses they/them pronouns, has faced recent legal issues, but the studio is fully supportive of their journey towards recovery. "They are completely focused on their recovery, and in our conversations with them over the last couple of months, it feels like they're making enormous progress," said Peter Safran, the producer of "The Flash".
"The Flash" opens in theaters on June 16, and fans are excited to see what this highly-anticipated movie has in store.
